Research Questions

Research Questions

Use this page to maintain the question library used specifically for instructor evaluations. Questions should be standardized here before they are added to a research period.

Typical use cases

  • build a new instructor-evaluation questionnaire
  • revise question wording
  • organize questions by group
  • choose the right answer type
  • enable or disable questions over time

What the screen contains

  • filters
  • Reload
  • Create
  • bulk delete
  • the question list
  • a create or edit modal

The list usually shows:

  • question text
  • answer type
  • group
  • status
  • created date

What you decide when creating a question

Question text

This is the wording respondents will see.

Answer type

Common options include:

  • single_choice
  • multiple_choice
  • rating
  • free text

Group

Groups help structure the set, for example:

  • teaching method
  • course content
  • open feedback

Order and status

You can control whether the question is active and where it appears.

If the question is choice-based

You need to define answer options with:

  • value
  • label
  • score when scoring matters

If the question is rating-based

You normally configure:

  • minimum
  • maximum
  • step

This is one of the most common formats for instructor evaluation because it is easy to aggregate later.

  1. Agree the evaluation groups first.
  2. Create each question with the correct answer type.
  3. Add options or rating settings where needed.
  4. Review status and order.
  5. Only then move the questions into Research Periods.

Common confusion

  • changing a base question can affect future periods
  • Research Questions are not the same thing as the Question Bank
  • rating scales should remain consistent if you want reliable comparison over time
